(EN) Ba'a, Rote Island, East Nusa Tenggara. Midnight until sunrise. Motorbikes pass and people begin to gather along a dark boulevard to the hum of a generator. Torch-lit activity and distant lights observed in expectation. Filmed over several nights the film follows the men and women waiting for the fishing boats to return from sea.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

(EN) "GHM bleibt offen" [GHM remains open] is a multimedia exhibition and a room scale VR installation that deals with the diversity and multi-perspectivity of space. It is about the relationality of space, the freedom of undefined places and the fragility of our commons.

For the interactive VR exhibition, the garden of the artist residency Vorwerkstift in Hamburg was examined in its complexity. Based on a current conflict with young people and neighbours over its use, which led to its temporary closure, various perspectives on the semi-public garden and the needs of its users are interwoven into a multi-perspective narrative. For years, the garden has been a hard-fought niche in the increasingly crowded city centre. For the residents of the neighbourhood, the garden represents a necessary passageway, retreat such as a free space that until now has not functioned according to the logic of "private space".

The microcosm of the garden of the house, which is called "GHM" among young people - Geister Haus Mitte - is exemplary of a multitude of local and global urban political disputes and negotiation processes.

(EN) Part 1: In a manner of a landscape film, tags and slogans written on the walls of the city of Athens, Madrid and Istanbul, are collected to reconstruct their political struggles. The montage operates with the simultaneity and asynchronism of the events that happened, meanwhile a voice in off tries to generate a narration by speaking out loud the writings.
Part 2: A man with bad humour loads his car full with oranges and starts his journey from the city to the seaside. It appears that the car radio only plays a seemingly endless discussion about media activism and „the society of spectacle“.
- The form is also political. Every image is only as innocent as its context of reception. Which kind of public - public sphere - which kind of images, language and narrations do we use and inhabit in order to want to change the world around us?

1 h 00′ | DV 4:3 | 2013

(EN) "Mi reino no funciona!"/ "My kingdom doesn't work" cries the queen out loud from the roof of the office building at 21 Patision Street in the centre of Athens. So loud, it is hard to believe that she remains unheard. She is wearing a dress that is actually a flag. The flag of her house. Which means nothing.
In four actions and experimental set-ups:
La casa - The House
La Bandera - The Flag
La Cama - The Bed
Las Alas de Globos - The Wings of Balloons
- Noemi Iglesias Barrios and Elena Friedrich explore different strategies of getting rid of and appropriating objects as bearers of meaning and personal and political stories. In improvisation with the camera, objects, body and space, moments of a possible narration emerge and those of absolute insignificance.

(EN) Susya is a Palestinian village in the Occupied West Bank. Territorial disputes with Israeli soldiers and settlers have become part of a daily routine. Every walk with the sheep resembles a negotiation over remaining pastures. Resisting means to persevere, to tell your own story, to invoke the past or a time to come. The film follows some of Susya's residents through their day-to-day lives: fragments, mere suggestions, to form an open space of meaning.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

Hope is a project, a labor (...). It is not a vague optimism about the future but something that must be worked on, shared with others so that it might take root and grow unpredictably, wildly. Hope is an ongoing effort to cultivate the conditions for a better future.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

“The image is connective tissue. No need to interpret, only to unfold, to increase the surface area of experience. By staying close to the surface of an event, I hope to trace a connection between the event’s material history, the event itself, me, and you.” (Touch. Sensuous Theory and Multisensory Media, Laura U. Marks, 2002)

A position in care work

Location ZOLLO #opening thursday 2.6 16h-22h (03.-6.6.22 tägl. 16:00-22:00)  (N 53° 32′ 34.273″ E 10° 2′ 6.23″)

The video installation "A position in care work“ highlights the complex of outsourced care work to care migrants in the 24-hour care of the elderly in Germany. Since more women are employed in the western industrialized countries, a global redistribution of care work is taking place. Care work itself is contradictory: meaningful and vital, it is at the same time exposed to significant exploitation.
